The concept of achievement, from the Latin word consecutive, refers to the process and the result of achieving. This verb, for its part, refers to access, receive or obtain what is sought.
For example: “The achievement of three titles in a row was something unthinkable a few years ago”, “I am convinced that the achievement of the most transcendent achievements is only possible with teamwork ”, “The United Nations Organization congratulated the authorities of an Asian country for the achievement of a new peace agreement ”.
It can be said that an achievement consists of reaching a goal or achieving something that was intended. Suppose an entrepreneur wants to develop a new business project. With the intention of realizing his idea, he begins to have meetings with potential investors. A few months later, thanks to the achievement of the necessary funds, he starts the project in question. The achievement idea, in this case, indicates that the undertaking requested and received a certain amount of money, that which it required to start the activity.
In the field of sport, it is often spoken of achievement to name a goal achieved or the obtaining of a title. Achieving the championship of the 2015/2016 season of the National Basketball Association (NBA) by Cleveland Cavaliers came after the defeat in the final series to team Golden State Warriors by 3 to 2. The key figure for the Cleveland Cavaliers to win the trophy was LeBron James, averaging more than 26 points and 9 rebounds in the playoffs.
Among the synonyms of the word achievement we find some terms that are in more everyday use, such as the following: obtaining, acquisition, scope, achievement, culmination and conquest. With respect to its antonyms, we can only cite loss, although it has more pseudoantonyms, that is, terms that are considered semantically opposed to it: loss, loss, damage, misfortune, ruin, impairment, escape and spillage.
Of course, we can also speak of pseudo-synonyms, that is, of those words that have a semantics close to the term achievement, although they cannot be considered one hundred percent synonymous, since they do not have the same meaning in most of the possible situations; among them are production, manufacture, elaboration, extraction, advance, result, fruit, product, success, profit, profit, benefit, utility and advantage.
Although the word achievement is not used in everyday speech, the concept it represents is very common, since all living beings move in pursuit of various objectives, some of which we set ourselves daily, while others have a degree of complexity and difficulty that forces us to work for a long time to overcome them.
Achieving a long-term goal can become difficult if we are not able to set a series of small intermediate goals, which we can overcome as we get closer to the main one. For example, many people share the dream of buying a house, but only some succeed because it requires saving a lot of money, for which a certain behavior is also necessary.
If we indulge in the temptation to incur “unnecessary” or “luxury” expenses every time we earn income, then the goal of buying a home will become virtually impossible. To achieve this, we must first of all set ourselves to reduce our expenses per month or even per week, an objective that is easy to exceed and to review, since the period is relatively short.
Returning to some of the synonyms of achievement, we can say that once we reach the goal of buying the house of our dreams, a feeling of conquest will invade us before an unparalleled achievement, which will mark the culmination of a long and arduous path.
